Tranche Tandoori

Indian meets Italian at Tandoori Slice in Des Moines. You've never had a pie like the pies at Pizza Locas in Des Moines. This nondescript food trailer, run by two brothers, captured the heart of a food writer for The Seattle Times, who raved about its wood-fired pies and Mexican-inspired toppings. Expand your horizons with a carne asada pizza with a salsa verde base, or a crazy flavorful Mexican corn pizza with cotija (cheese) with a light layer of mayo and a sprinkling of Hot Cheetos dust.

Barakat Pizza & Bakery

Barakat Pizza & Bakery, on the border of Des Moines and SeaTac, offers both classic pizzas and specialty baked goods. One of the standout menu items (pictured here) is Turkish Pide, a boat-shaped baked good often referred to as "Turkish pizza". Filled with seasoned meat, cheese, and tomato, it's packed with flavor and large enough to feed two or three people. Does this qualify as pizza? We vote yes (but if you disagree, there are traditional options like pepperoni and margherita). While there is a small amount of indoor seating, this is primarily a takeout spot. But if you want something delicious delivered to your home, event, or hotel room, we recommend trying it out!

If you need a quick slice on your way in and out of SEA Airport, a late-night bite delivered to your hotel, or a pie for a picnic at Angle Lake Park, Pizza Time in SeaTac is the way to go. Part of a local chain, this unassuming spot has been going strong for more than two decades. It's consistently praised for its crisp, chewy crust, generous toppings, and speedy, friendly service. Build your own pizza, or try one of the specialty flavors like the Sweet & Spicy, featuring jalapeños, pineapple, and a mango habañero drizzle, or the Indian-inspired Tandoori Pizza.

If you're looking for a full-service restaurant with gourmet food but a neighborhood feel, you can't beat via Marina in downtown Des Moines. This local favorite specializes in authentic, wood-fired Neopolitan pies. People rave about the perfectly balanced sauces and chewy crust. While pizza is the star of the show, the pasta, salad, and dessert menu are certainly worth exploring.

Ulysses Pub et Pizzeria

Ulysses Pub & Pizzeria is a beloved local sports bar that's been around since 1978. It's very close to SEA Airport, making it a popular stop for travelers on their way in and out of town. Their Santorini pizza, featuring chicken breast, feta, olives, artichoke hearts, and onions, is like a little taste of Greece in pizza form!

The inside has a fun sports bar vibe, with darts and TVs playing all the major games. Out back, there's a patio with ample outdoor seating and even some yard games.
